Lactuca virosa is a biennial herb growing to a maximum height of 6 feet. and has been studied extensively by the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and has been found to contain the two core properties Lactucopicrin and Lactucin.
Other names for this plant material include Wild Lettuce, Opium Lettuce, Bitter Lettuce, Great Lettuce, Lactucarium, Laitue vireuse, Poisonous Lettuce, Rakutu-Karyumu-So, and Rauschlattich.
