Akuamma seeds have a rich history across the continent of Africa. The seeds originate from the Akuamma tree (Picralima nitida) and contains “akuammine” as its most present alkaloid. Akuammine is an indole alkaloid also known as vincamajoridine, which is is structurally related to yohimbine and mitragynine.
