Sophora subprostrata, from the family Leguminaceae,  was first recorded in the Kaibao Bencao (973 A.D.) and is native to elevations of 1000 - 2000 metres in Guangxi, Guizhou, and Yunnan Provinces of China   Rich in alkaloids and other scientifically interesting compounds, traditional use of this plant vary.  This plant has a history of medicinal use in China and Asia.  Also called Sophora tonkinensis (shandougen: mountain bean root.)
